Mix&Match taps

Waterevolution presents the Mix&Match tap collection, a basin range built on a simple idea: the same cylindrical body with interchangeable handles and spouts. The Portuguese brand sums up its philosophy as taking the lightness and purity of water as the inspiration for the form and function of its products, with simple, pure lines that set out to reinvent wellbeing and comfort in the bathroom. Mix&Match carries that idea into a system of combinable parts.

In this article we explain how the collection was organised when it was launched, what distinguishes its two handles — Cruz and Boca — and its four spout shapes, what to bear in mind when specifying it and who is behind the design.

A system of handles and spouts to combine

The collection comprises single-handle (single-lever) and two-handle basin mixers. They all share the same vertical body, and what changes from one model to another comes down to three choices: the number of handles, the type of handle and the shape of the spout. Hence the name: each tap is the result of combining these parts.

There are two handles: Cruz, a metal cross handle in the same finish as the body, and Boca, a black wheel that contrasts with the metal. And there are four spouts, which Waterevolution identifies with the letters H, U, V and Y according to their silhouette. According to the manufacturer’s spec sheets, the body is brass; in the launch images, with a chrome finish.

Cruz and Boca: two characters for the same tap

The handle is what most changes how the tap reads. With the same body and the same spout, the choice between Cruz and Boca decides whether the tapware blends into the whole or becomes an accent within the bathroom.

Cruz revisits the cross handle of traditional tapware with a geometry of straight arms and clean edges. Because it shares the body’s finish, the tap reads as a single metal piece, a discreet option for restrained bathrooms or those in which the basin or the wall surfaces take centre stage.

Boca replaces the cross handle with a black openwork wheel with an octagonal outline, which stands out against the chrome and gives the tap a more graphic character. It is the option for those who want the tapware to be seen, or to work with other dark elements in the bathroom, such as profiles, accessories or basins in black tones.

One handle or two, and four spout silhouettes

The single-handle versions are, in Waterevolution’s terminology, progressive mixers: the side handle turns on the water and sets the temperature in a single movement. The two-handle versions follow the classic arrangement, with one handle for cold water and another for hot on either side of the body, a symmetrical layout that reinforces the traditional air of the whole.

The spout also varies by model. The H and Y spouts draw an angular profile, with a straight upper section and pronounced bends; U and V, by contrast, describe a continuous arc. The outlet is vertical on H and U, and angled on V and Y. So the same bathroom can be resolved in a more orthogonal or a more curved language without leaving the collection.

Every model in the collection has its own design, which makes each tap a distinctive element in the bathroom.

Key points for specifying Mix&Match

Before finalising the choice, these points are worth resolving at design stage:

  • The reference says it all: each model’s code combines the handle (C for Cruz, B for Boca), the number of handles (1M or 2M) and the spout letter. For example, TMI.C.1M.H is the single-lever Cruz with H spout and TMI.B.2M.V the two-handle Boca with V spout.
  • Spout and basin together: the shape, height and reach of the spout should be checked on the technical data sheet against the chosen basin, especially with countertop or shallow basins.
  • One or two handles: the single-lever simplifies everyday use; the two-handle version offers a more classic symmetrical look. Both are mounted on the basin or countertop.
  • Contrasting finishes: with Boca, the black of the wheel becomes part of the bathroom palette; it is best coordinated with accessories, shower screen profiles or handles.

Waterevolution and Studio P

Waterevolution is a Portuguese brand founded in 2005 that designs and manufactures in Portugal. Its headquarters, warehouse and production are in the north of the country, a few kilometres from Porto airport. In 2010 it presented its collections internationally at Cersaie, the Italian ceramics and bathroom furnishings fair, with a stand designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, and it has worked with architects including Souto de Moura himself, Francisco Mangado, João Álvaro Rocha and Nuno Brandão Costa.

Filipe Neri and Lucie Ramos designed this collection within Studio P, Waterevolution’s design and product development department, set up in 2005. They are designers who understand the needs of industry professionals and the requirements of different projects. As a result, they create innovative, rational and functional taps and accessories that are also versatile, suiting any space in a home, hotel, restaurant or office.

The collection today (2026 update)

Today Mix&Match is a broader collection than the one presented in this article: the Cruz and Boca handles have been joined by Magnum, Gear and Switch, and the series includes versions for bidet, kitchen, wall-mounted basin, and thermostatic bath and shower. The brand now credits it to Studio WE, the current name of its design and product development department. The basin mixer spec sheets consulted list a brass body, a flow rate of 3.8 l/min at 3 bar, single-hole deck mounting and an included click-clack waste valve.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Cruz and Boca handles?
Cruz is a metal cross handle with straight arms in the same finish as the body, so the tap reads as a single piece. Boca is a black wheel with an octagonal outline that contrasts with the metal and gives the tap a more graphic character.
What do the letters H, U, V and Y mean?
They are the collection’s four spout shapes. H and Y have a straight upper section with pronounced bends; U and V describe a continuous arc. H and U have a vertical outlet, and V and Y an angled one.
What are Mix&Match taps made of?
According to Waterevolution’s spec sheets, the body of the basin mixers is brass. The images from the collection’s launch show the chrome finish, with the Boca wheels in black.
What kind of projects is it designed for?
Its designers conceive it as versatile tapware, suitable for homes, hotels, restaurants or offices. The ability to combine handle and spout makes it possible to keep a single family throughout a project while varying the character of each bathroom.
