New Collection X by Glamora

Glamora’s new Collection X of wallcoverings stands out for the delicacy and richness of detail of its graphics. It explores themes such as nature, matter and craft, approached from a new interpretative angle in which echoes of a bygone era and new classics for the digital age are reinvented.

In this article we look at the ideas that shape the collection, how its 78 designs and its made-to-measure system are organised, the substrates on which Glamora presented it, what to bear in mind when specifying it, and a clarification about some images that accompanied the original publication.

Nature, matter and craft: the ideas behind Collection X

According to Glamora’s catalogue, primitive art, architectural brutalism, the sand-casting technique of the artist Costantino Nivola, the value of raw earth and the plastic arts become the basis for designs with a strong material accent.

Nivola (Orani, Sardinia, 1911 – Long Island, 1988) developed the technique from a game on the beach: he shaped wet sand and poured plaster or concrete over it to obtain reliefs. He applied it on a large scale in concrete murals for American buildings, such as the relief in the Olivetti showroom on Fifth Avenue in New York (1953).

Another thread in the collection is the world of wicker weaving and cane chairs, a form of craft that enjoyed its heyday in the 1970s. Glamora reinterprets it in a contemporary key and mixes it with marble elements, textiles and marbling effects.

Nature appears through blurred, evanescent and liquid landscapes, large-scale plants and flowers, and the use of natural wood and minerals. Light is used experimentally to create reflections and refractions in fascinating, ever-changing interiors.

78 made-to-measure designs in two colourways

The index of the Collection X catalogue lists 78 designs, from Afra to Vitrum, and each is presented in two colourways: Bellagio, for example, in GLX381A and GLX382A. The palette stays within the neutral tones that characterise the brand, with precision and harmony in soft shades, layering and a play of scales in the designs.

No design is sold as a standard roll. Glamora starts from the wall dimensions and adapts the size, the graphic layout and, if needed, the colour of each design to the space, whether residential, commercial or hospitality. According to the catalogue, the client receives graphic simulations before confirming the order, can request a full-scale sample and, once the order is confirmed, the wallcovering is produced and shipped within two weeks.

The substrates: GlamDecor, GlamAcoustic, GlamFusion™ and GlamMetal

Each design is printed on a substrate chosen according to how the space is used. The Collection X catalogue presented four, all with made-to-measure roll lengths: GlamDecor, lightly textured, for interior walls and ceilings; GlamAcoustic, sound-absorbing and sound-insulating; GlamFusion™, waterproof without added treatment, for areas in temporary contact with water or under heavy mechanical or chemical stress; and GlamMetal, with metallic reflections and a silky touch.

The figures in the table are those from the 2020 catalogue. The current GlamDecor technical data sheet (consulted in 2026) describes it as a non-woven with a vinyl surface, classified Euroclass B-s2, d0 for reaction to fire, extra-washable according to EN 259-1/EN 12956 and FSC® certified; the product page gives a thickness of 0.49 mm. For a project, always work with the current data sheet for the chosen substrate.

Key points for specifying Collection X

Before including one of these designs in a project, it is worth resolving these points with Glamora’s documentation:

  • Wall dimensions: the design is adapted to each wall, so dimensioned elevations showing openings, doors and changes of plane must be supplied before requesting the simulation.
  • Substrate by use: GlamDecor for interior walls and ceilings; GlamAcoustic if acoustic comfort is a priority; GlamFusion™ in areas exposed to splashes or heavy wear; GlamMetal when metallic reflections are wanted.
  • Colour and scale: each design has two catalogue colourways and allows adjustments to scale and colour; the full-scale sample helps to validate them in the light of the space.
  • Substrate preparation and hanging: the current GlamDecor data sheet requires a smooth, flat, white and dry wall (residual moisture below 2%) and a stable temperature of between 15 and 35 °C during installation.
  • Permitted surfaces: Glamora now warns that applying the wallcovering to wood, laminates, metal or resin, or to floors, doors or panels, falls outside its instructions and voids the guarantee.

Interplay, Stille and Temps Perdu: images from the Komorebi collection

The original publication of this article included three images of designs that are not part of Collection X. According to Glamora’s website, Interplay, Stille and Temps Perdu belong to Komorebi, a collection inspired by Japanese aesthetics and printed on GlamPure, a non-woven of European linen and viscose. We keep them here with their correct attribution.

Glamora, the manufacturer

Glamora is an Italian wallcovering company based in Sassuolo (Modena), active since 2010. All its products are made to measure and production is in-house; according to the catalogue, the company also offers on-site support from an architect and expert installers. Its Creative Collection grows each year with a new chapter, and Collection X is the tenth.

In 2020 its Milan showroom occupied 140 m² on two floors of a historic building at Via Solferino 27, between Porta Garibaldi and Brera, with around 2,400 full-scale samples. One of its substrates, GlamFusion™, had received the German Design Award 2020 in the materials and surfaces category.

Frequently asked questions

How many designs does Collection X have?
The index of Glamora’s catalogue lists 78 designs, each in two colourways. All are produced to fit the wall.
Is it the same collection as the GlamFusion™ Collection X presented in 2019?
No. In September 2019 Glamora presented a Collection X specifically for GlamFusion™, with 27 designs, at 100% Design in London and at Cersaie (Bologna). The Collection X in this article is chapter X of the Creative Collection, with 78 designs.
On which substrates can it be ordered?
The Collection X catalogue presented four substrates: GlamDecor, GlamAcoustic, GlamFusion™ and GlamMetal. Glamora’s range of substrates has changed since then, so it is advisable to confirm which are available for each design on its current page.
How does it perform in a fire?
It depends on the substrate. The current GlamDecor technical data sheet gives Euroclass B-s2, d0 according to EN 13501-1. For other substrates, consult their specific data sheet.
