Elegant, sophisticated surfaces that stand out for their modern, high-tech identity, with an emphasis on innovation, design and a forward-looking vision. Materials that evolve as society does, to meet the needs of professionals and private clients looking for products with a clearly distinctive stamp. The ceramic tile manufacturer Museum, the premium brand of Peronda Group, presents its CHICAGO collection: a tribute to a city where architecture has a strong presence and where buildings and professionals that have set a benchmark stand out.
In this article we look at the idea behind the collection, the new 4D WALL technology with which Museum makes its 50×150 cm wall tile, the formats, thicknesses and finishes in which Museum presented it, and what to bear in mind when specifying it for floors and walls.

A calm stone, inspired by a city
Museum presented CHICAGO in its magazine on 25 October 2021 as its new stone collection, and described it with the same attributes it associates with the city: cosmopolitan, sophisticated, exclusive and innovative. As inspiring as the city itself, the collection is intended as a nod to some of the buildings designed by world-famous architects, and stands out for its design and originality.
The CHICAGO collection represents a calm stone, whose cloudy pattern blends tone on tone, taking on a thoroughly contemporary style. It comes in four natural shades: Cloud, Road, Mocha and Moon. All four colours were made in every format and finish in the range, so the tone can be chosen according to the light and character of each space without giving up any piece.

4D WALL: the 50×150 cm wall tile
The new 4D WALL technology transforms the concept of wall tiling as it had been known until then. Its white-body ceramic composition, combined with the large 50×150 cm format and its slim 7.5 mm thickness, further simplifies logistics, handling and installation indoors. Museum incorporated it into CHICAGO to bring greater naturalness to spaces thanks to its size and its Shaped finish.
According to Museum’s technical sheets, it is a glazed ceramic wall tile in group BIII of the ceramic tile classification (UNE-EN 14411), with water absorption above 10%: a product for interior walls, not for floors or outdoor use. It was made in all four colours and in two versions, plain and decorated (DECOR), the latter with a relief of horizontal lines that is combined with the plain piece on the same wall.

Formats, thicknesses and finishes
In addition to the 4D WALL tile, CHICAGO comes in a wide variety of formats and finishes (Shaped, Natural and Antislip). These are characteristics of the material that offer interplays of light, colour and texture for both domestic and working environments. The table shows the range as it appeared on Museum’s website in 2022.
The floor formats whose technical sheets we have been able to consult (100×180, 100×100, 90×90 and 60×120 cm) are group BIa porcelain stoneware, with water absorption below 0.5% and frost resistance according to EN ISO 10545-12. The collection is completed by 30×30 cm decorative pieces, such as D. Mix, which combines Chicago Mocha with Dual White and Grow Kalua.

Three finishes for three uses
The finish is not just an aesthetic matter: it determines where each piece can be laid. Museum defines Shaped as a relief perfectly coordinated with the pattern, and it is the finish of the large formats and the 4D WALL tile. The collection’s technical sheets give the following slip resistance, according to the pendulum test of UNE 41901 EX:
- Shaped: class 1. Suitable for walls and for dry interior floors with a slope of less than 6%, such as living rooms, bedrooms or offices.
- Natural: class 2 (R10 according to DIN 51130). Allows paving of wet interior areas with a slope of less than 6%, such as bathrooms, kitchens or entrances from outside.
- Antislip: class 3 (R11 according to DIN 51130). This is the finish for outdoor areas, pool surrounds and showers, in the 90×90 cm format.
These classes correspond to table 1.2 of the Documento Básico SUA of the Código Técnico de la Edificación (Spain’s building code), which requires them in buildings for public residential, healthcare, educational, retail, administrative and public assembly use. In housing they are not mandatory, but they are a good reference for choosing the finish for each room.

Key points when specifying CHICAGO
A wide range from which to choose the option best suited to the project’s design, with an end result that gives spaces character. These are the points worth settling from the outset:
- Floor and wall, same material: the porcelain can be used on both planes in the same colour, so the space reads as a single volume of stone. The 4D WALL tile, on the other hand, is for interior walls only.
- Finish by room: Shaped in dry areas, Natural in bathrooms and kitchens and Antislip outdoors and around pools, following the slip class of each.
- Large format, careful installation: UNE 138002 considers any piece with a side longer than 70 cm to be large format. It requires a flat substrate, deformable cementitious adhesive (C2 S1 or S2) and back-buttering, and the largest slabs are handled with frames and suction cups.
- Combinations: CHICAGO sits alongside other series, such as Dual and Grow, which accompany it in the D. Mix decor and in the settings in which Museum presented the collection.
Museum, the premium brand of Peronda Group
Museum describes itself as the premium ceramics brand of Peronda Group, the ceramics group based in Onda (Castellón) that also includes the Peronda and Harmony brands. The brand itself links its offering to technology, ever-larger formats and new finishes and textures, and the Museum Elevate line brings its designs to kitchen and bathroom worktops.
Update note (2025): the collection is still in Museum’s catalogue, but it has changed since its launch. In the 2025 edition it is offered in three colours (Cloud, Road and Mocha) and its largest format is 100×275 cm.
Frequently asked questions
- What is 4D WALL?
- It is the technology with which Museum made CHICAGO’s 50×150 cm wall tile: a glazed white-body ceramic piece, 7.5 mm thick with a Shaped finish, in plain and decorated versions. As a group BIII wall tile, it is laid on interior walls.
- Can CHICAGO be used outdoors?
- Yes, in the 90×90 cm porcelain stoneware format with an Antislip finish, which Museum’s sheets classify as slip class 3 and R11. It is the right finish for terraces, pool surrounds and showers. The 4D WALL tile is not suitable for outdoor use.
- What is the largest piece in the collection?
- At its launch, the 100×260 cm slab, 6 mm thick, in a Shaped finish. It allows large areas to be covered with very few joints and, because of its size, requires large-format installation methods.
- Which finish should I choose for a bathroom?
- On the floor, the Natural finish, which is slip class 2 and designed for wet interior areas. On the walls, the 4D WALL tile or the large Shaped formats in the same colour can be used.
