The Unicopark collection consists of modular oak planks that bring elegance and comfort to interiors and create particularly welcoming atmospheres. It is a versatile wood suited to many applications: homes, workspaces, hospitality, retail and restaurants, among others. The planks that make up the collection have a feel that is rustic and contemporary at the same time.
Bauwerk Parkett, the Swiss parquet manufacturer, presented Unicopark in February 2021. In this article we look at what the collection is and how its interplay of widths and lengths works, its eight colours, the hand-finished Handcrafted version, how it is made and what to bear in mind when specifying it.
Planks of different widths and lengths of up to four metres
The wooden pieces that make up the collection are hand-selected and produced in different lengths and widths. According to Bauwerk, the planks come in five widths, from 20 to 39.5 cm, and in lengths of two to four metres. The base is a 20 mm three-layer parquet with an oak top layer and a brushed surface.
What sets Unicopark apart is that planks of different sizes are combined in the same room. Bauwerk’s specialists plan the layout of the pieces from the floor plan of each space, taking its particular features into account, so that the floor – the largest piece of furniture in the room, as the manufacturer describes it – adapts to the plan rather than the other way round.
Choosing the format to suit the space
It is advisable to choose the parquet format according to the spaces in which it is laid: large boards for spacious rooms and more modest formats for small spaces. In this way, the parquet lends the room a sense of spaciousness and light.
Unicopark adds a further possibility: mixing widths and lengths in the same room. Bauwerk suggests this combination for a small country house as much as for a spacious loft, and also proposes it as a design device, for example to highlight particular pieces of furniture. The result is a floor with a varied rhythm, in which each plank offers enough surface for the oak grain to be read.

Eight colours, from light to dark tones
The woods in the collection offer different shades: from light tones, such as Farina, Avorio and natural oak, to more intense ones, such as Gold, Mandorla, Fulvo, Fumo and Caffè. The names are those used by Bauwerk and are not translated. All are supplied with a natural oil finish.
Bauwerk also offers different wood grades, from very calm to very rustic. In the 2021 product sheets, the Gold, Fumo, Caffè, Mandorla and Fulvo tones appeared in the rustic grade (46), while natural oak, Farina and Avorio were also available in less rustic grades.

Unicopark Handcrafted: hand-worked wood
Three colours in the collection – Avorio, Mandorla and Fulvo – are also available in a Handcrafted version. It is a material that breathes craftsmanship, as its surface is refined by hand. The result is a fusion of colours, textures and details that makes each plank a unique piece and preserves the natural character of the wood.
The material’s own singularities, such as knots and cracks, are not concealed: they are enhanced through careful manual processes. Traditional brushing and deep-brushing techniques bring out the structure of the wood and give the surface a very pronounced feel.

How it is made
The collection is made from natural wood. According to Bauwerk, 97% of the wood it processes comes from Europe, and in the Unicopark product sheets both the oak layer and the softwood layers are listed as being of European origin. Since 2017 the manufacturer has dried and cut the lamellas in the areas where the wood grows, which, it explains, creates value in the country of origin and reduces the impact of transport, because dry wood weighs less.
At the factory, the top layer and the base are glued and pressed in a stack press with an adhesive that Bauwerk describes as formaldehyde-free and environmentally friendly. Brushing and applying the colour require great sensitivity, because every piece of wood is different. Profiling and edge treatment are carried out with very precise techniques, and finally the planks are inspected by hand.

Key points for specifying Unicopark
Beyond colour, these are the points worth resolving at the design stage:
- Floor plan from the outset: the combination of widths and lengths is planned on the floor plan of the room. Bauwerk’s specialists propose the layout of the planks based on that plan.
- Wood grade: the choice between a calm or rustic grade makes a big difference to the result. Bauwerk’s grading sheets show the characteristics that may appear in an average square metre, with no binding value as regards colour.
- Handcrafted or brushed: the Handcrafted version, in Avorio, Mandorla and Fulvo, has more relief and a more rustic character; standard brushing gives a calmer surface.
- Underfloor heating: Bauwerk declares Unicopark suitable for underfloor heating; this should be confirmed in the technical data sheet for each product.
- Maintenance: as an oiled floor, it is cleaned and cared for with products specific to oiled parquet, which renew the surface protection.
Bauwerk Parkett, the manufacturer
Bauwerk Parkett has its origins in the solid parquet that the Swiss pioneer Ernst Göhner brought into series production in 1935; the company was founded in 1944. In 2021, according to the company itself, more than 60% of its output was manufactured in St. Margrethen (Switzerland), and it had two further plants in Kietaviskes (Lithuania, since 2014) and Đurđevac (Croatia, since 2017), with a catalogue of more than 350 two-layer, three-layer and solid parquet products.
On sustainability, Bauwerk states that the wood for Unicopark comes from sustainable forestry and that its floors do not emit harmful substances into indoor air; the collection’s product sheets included the Swiss eco-bau label. 2025 note: Unicopark is still in Bauwerk’s catalogue, which now calls the natural oak tone Nature.
